Why don’t agents want to time block?

What if? What if I have a client call? What if I have a closing? What if I am showing a house?

Time blocking is too hard, too ridged. I can’t block time when I don’t know what will happen in my day.

I don’t need to-my schedule is all up here in my head. I know how to manage my time.

None of these answers are wrong-but there are a lot of misnomers with this thinking.

Let’s shift the mindset…and look at time blocking like the productivity tool it is.

  • You can’t plan your business or life on a what if. It may or may not happen. What if I have a client call? Take it, go on the appointment. This is a revenue generating activity. If you have from 2-4 blocked to appointment set and you have a client want to see a house its totally fine. Shift your 2-4 appointment setting to an earlier time in the day or double up on appointment setting the next day. The bottom line is making sure you get the “time in” and hold yourself accountable.

  • Time blocking is too hard/ridged. We all have the same amount of time in the day. Time blocking is not an all or nothing. You manage it, control it. It helps you identify critical versus non-critical activities. It helps you identify your derailers and makes you realize how important and valuable your time is.

  • You know your schedule in your head? There are days agents don’t remember what they had for lunch or if they even had lunch. The market has shifted. You need to make the shift to take control of your business. I can’t tell you how many times I have taken a client Agent through the time blocking exercise and they are surprised on how they aren’t managing their time and productivity.

  • The bottom line is if you want to increase your productivity, grow your business and thrive in this market-you need to manage your time.
